The last y’all heard from the Comics Syllabus was the warm and wonderful Jose PImienta talking about TWIN CITIES, coming out soon from Random House Graphic.
Since then, calamity! Our household was hit with COVID, probably the BA5 that’s rampant. Then, a series of dominoes involving moving schools, attending to long-neglected family needs, and— I’m not going to lie— exhausted from the grief work with folks in the undertow of our crises and politics.
Please believe me that I think often (DAILY!) of this Comics Syllabus Substack and the critical commentary on comics in the classroom, the culture and pedagogy of comics, the goings-on of Substack comics and the broader industry, etc. that you seek and support here. I apologize for the silence here!
But I'm still here and making plans for Comics Syllabus to thrive in the near future-- reviewing graphic novels and comics, digging deep into Substack comics, contemplating comics in education and for young readers, and dipping into comics theory, creating, and thought.
Looking forward to more to come!
