Hi, I listened to your last few podcasts and I found them so interesting and engaging that I decided to subscribe. In the last week I have been unable to stop myself from subscribing to a number of Substack creators. I'm going to try to stop at my current list for budget reasons but here are my subscriptions: Comics Syllabus Newsletter, Copper Bottle, Dark Apocrypha Presents, Glass Eye Studios, It's Chip Zdarsky's Newsletter, OK?, MSX - The Mangasplaining Newsletter, Tales from the Farm, and 3 Worlds / 3 Moons. I should be able to follow along with a substantial portion of the Substack creators you will cover. This will be an interesting experience for me because I am not usually interested in communicating directly with creators but usually prefer the "author is dead" approach of just reading the work. I'm ready to go on the journey and I really appreciate the time and effort you take in constructing your podcast episodes and your inclusion of interesting works from the non-comics world that inform your reading.
It's wonderful to hear from you, and thank you for listening to the podcast, engaging with me here on the Substack, and supporting Comics Syllabus! My sympathies on the "unable to stop myself from subscribing to a number of Substack creators"... I'm quite caught up in the same. But I think those are some compelling and tasteful selections! Though I'd picked up some of Killadelphia, I didn't know Rodney Barnes' work well, and yet I'm so interested in where Dark Apocrypha will go. Eager to dive into those on future "Thursday Thriller" reviews here on this Substack. And certainly, Zdarsky, Ahmed, Lemire, and 3W/3M newsletters have had a wealth of good stuff, and I'm digging MSX and looking forward to Glass Eye's output. It's a really good selection! I'll certainly be reviewing comics from those, including MSX's "Okinawa," Lemire's "Black Hammer" and "Fishflies," Zdarsky's "Public Domain," the 3W/3Ms churn that's popping up, and more. The ones I'm excited to review that aren't on your list (not that I'm trying to tempt you ;).... ) include Molly Ostertag's, Grant Morrison's, Kelly Thompson's, and Sophie Campbell's... but I think you're already "in" on some of the best that's here so far. I hear you on the hesitations with our hyper-connected forms of engagement these days, afforded by social media and direct-from-authors media. You're definitely making me think about what we gain and maybe what we lose by having such a glut of access and interaction. Would love to stay in dialogue with you about that! But thanks so much for your thoughts, as well as for your kind words and encouragement. Do let me know what's working for you and what you'd like to hear or read more about here at Comics Syllabus, okay? You're what makes this all worthwhile. Cheers!
